Quick Hits:
The Sabercats have only one shutout in school history. Southmoore blanked Westmoore 34-0 on September 11th of 2009.
Southmoore is one of only four schools to have a winning record against Westmoore. The Sabercats are 5-4 vs. the Jaguars.
Southmoore was eliminated from the playoffs in the first round by Jenks. However, the 42 points scored by the Sabercats were the most by any team against Jenks other than Union since 44 by Springdale, Arkansas in 2005.

OFFENSE
Only three starters return this year after the Sabercats finished 6-5 in 2016 and were ousted in the first round of the playoffs.
Rae’Quan Wicks (6-0, 180, Sr.) will be asked to step up and carry the load offensively from his running back spot. In 2016, Wicks carried the ball 80 times for 682 yards and four touchdowns. Marshal Mack (5-7, 165, Jr.) also will get some carries this season to give the Sabercats a change of pace on the ground and allow Wicks to get some rest.
On the offensive line, Bryce Williams (6-4, 310, Sr.) will start at tackle and Brock Eltiste (6-0, 265, Jr.) will get the nod at guard.
At quarterback, look for Donovan Gaines (5-11, 185, Jr.) and Jaedyn Scott (6-1, 200, So.) to compete for the starting job.
It is never easy to compete at the 6A level with the amount of experience Southmoore has, but head coach Jeremy Stark is happy with this group of players and their effort.
“We will have a lot of new faces on the field this year,” Stark said. “They will be an inexperienced group, but they are a great group of hard-working young men that are committed to Southmoore High School and to the Sabercat football program.”
DEFENSE
Southmoore will also be young on defense this year but should have playmakers at every level.
At linebacker, Jared Spradling (6-0, 230, Sr.) will be the go-to guy in the middle of the field. Last season, Spradling made 101 tackles and four sacks. Gaines also will see big time at outside linebacker after coming in with 84 tackles and three sacks in 2016.
On the line, Brian Shomali (6-0, 250, Jr.) returns after recording 45 tackles and eight sacks a year ago. Brayden Fenity (6-3, 250, Sr.) also adds a strong presence up front after making 55 tackles and three sacks in 2016.
In the secondary, fans can expect Wicks to be the team leader at safety as he looks to improve on his 157 career tackles and eight career interceptions. Mack also should get some time at defensive back this year as the two members of the offensive backfield carry that chemistry over to the defensive backfield.
