Plateau track and field athletes find themselves ranked among the state’s best in a handful of running, jumping and throwing events.
Keeping tabs of such things is the athletic.net website. Through meets of last week, here’s what the site reported.
Ranked No. 1 in their classifications are the girls’ 4×400 relay teams from both Enumclaw High and White River. The EHS quartet of Gracie Neu, Johanna Brown, Mia Ammons and Kayla Carlson posted a time of 4 minutes, 6.77 seconds during the March 30 Liberty Invitational; not only is that the top time among 4A schools, it’s currently the best statewide.
Carson Christensen is No. 2 among Class 4A long jumpers and No. 3 in the state; his leap of 22 feet, 6 inches came during the April 6 Arcadia Invitational.
Kale Engebretsen moved up to No. 3 on the Class 4A list in the 300-meter hurdles. His season-best time of 39.88 seconds came April 13 at the Pasco Invitational.
Freshman Addie Neu sits at no. 5 among Class 4A runners in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:18 also came at the Liberty Invitational.
The EHS boys 4×400 relay moved to the No. 4 spot in the 4A ranks during the April 13 Pasco Relays. Finishing in 3:28.02 were Ricky Portillo, Ethan Eilertson, Kale Engebretsen and Royal Snyder.
