Eagles fall to Farmington 48-18

The Huntsville Eagles (1-1) were outsized against Farmington on Friday, coach Randy Barnhill said, but he hopes to see his team bounce back against the 3A Elkins Elks this Friday.

The Eagles lost to the Cardinals 48-18 Friday, but the game was closer than the final score indicates, Barnhill said.

“For the most part, we were never totally out of the game,” Barnhill said. “Our kids were playing as hard as they can play and as good as they can play, but we were just physically outmatched.”

The Cardinals scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to take an early 14-0 lead, and would outscore the Eagles 7-6 in the second to take a 21-6 lead headed into halftime.

“Farmington had a lot of big guys, but I thought we improved and we held up against them,” Barnhill said. “It was 21-6 at halftime and I told the kids at the half, ‘you’re still in the ballgame.’”
