Wilmington's Mason excels in cross country invitational

Freshman Grace Mason paved the way for the Wilmington High girls cross country team Saturday.

Mason finished fifth in the 30-team Big Red Invitational, which was hosted by West Middlesex. Mason recorded a time of 20:21.

The Lady Greyhounds finished third behind Oil City and Lakeview. Mei Williams was 20th for Wilmington in 21:28, while Elise Hilton claimed 22nd in 21:32. Claudia DiMuccio (43rd, 22:26) and Amber Morse (58th, 23:02) also participated for the Lady Greyhounds.

Wilmington’s boys team captured 16th place in the meet. Jacob Winters led the way, finishing 13th in 17:39. Dakota Schuring secured 64th place in 18:56, Dale Nestor placed 72nd in 19:08 and Kyle Erson was 102nd in 19:47). Michael Hoffman was 138th in 20:58 for the Greyhounds.

Wilmington’s junior high girls team took fourth, led by Emma Mason, who finished fifth. The Greyhounds’ high boys team took 13th, led by Will Anderson, who placed 56th.



Goodlin excels for New Castle

New Castle finished seventh in the Big Red Invitational. Grace Goodlin led the ‘Canes, followed by Marissa Polding and Anna Blundo, all earning individual medals. Zoey Ondako, Olivia Goodlin, and Nina Reider also competed for New Castle.

New Castle’s junior high harriers took third overall. Abby Ambrosini paced the Lady ‘Canes, placing 17th in 10:36.



Shenango boys fare well

Matt Salem raced to an 11th-place for the Wildcats at the New Balance Invitational in Kutztown.

Salem posted a time of 17:32 to help Shenango finish sixth out of 23 teams.

Nick Pindel was 43rd for the Wildcats in 18:41 and Lucas Olcott took 47th in 18:47. Ty Kent captured 51st in 18:58 and Jensen Lewis claimed 62nd in 19:10.

Carmen Medvit led the Shenango girls team, finishing 13th in 21:22. Haley Morgan (25:43), Geanna Foster (25:47) and Nikki Baker (25:59) also ran, but their places weren’t provided.

Boys soccerMohawk holds on for win

Alex Boston and Dylan Lloyd scored a goal each to lead Mohawk to a 2-1 non-section home win over South Side Beaver.
