Priest River Lamanna High School girls’ soccer team lost to Stillwater Christian School from Kalispell, Mont. here Aug. 25 3-0. Head coach Shannon Fraser said, “Our defense played a great game and made 26 defensive saves with Liann Kren and Chelsea Brown leading freshmen Hannah Larson and Hannah Palfrey who readily stepped up to the plate.” Those defenders limited Stillwater’s shots on goal to 18. Spartan goalkeeper Lillith Hernandez made 9 saves in a scoreless first half, and Bailey Teal made 4 saves in the second half while giving up three goals. On offense, Keona Brown and Karah Fink led the charge as the team put 6 shots on goal. Fraser said the team looked better in its first outing than it did last year.

Three days later, the Spartans beat Grangeville here 6-3. Fink scored what Fraser called “a beautiful goal” early in the game thanks to an assist from Shayla Martinez. Brown scored at will throughout the game, racking up a three-goal hat trick on the day. Hannah Brengle also found the back of the net with an assist from Halie Moore. Fraser said, “Both teams played great but our girls were the first to the ball, kept on it until they finished in the net, and held each other together in defense.” Grangeville’s Naomi Connelley scored a hat trick in the losing effort.
