Prep football teams participate in annual get-together with the press

It was Meet the Press time for area football players and coaches on Monday.

Boulevard Christian Church hosted the 10th annual Phoenix Prep Football Media Day, an event which also included the Tahlequah Daily Press and Cherokee County schools.

Muskogee, Hilldale, Fort Gibson, Wagoner, Haskell, Porter, Warner, Checotah, Eufaula, Webbers Falls, Gore, Tahlequah, Sequoyah, Keys and Hulbert participated. Only Porum among area schools in the coverage areas did not attend.

The Roughers are coming off a 6A-II semifinal season. Hilldale made the 4A quarterfinals after running the regular-season table in their first year up from 3A. Wagoner is going for a fourth state championship in 4A and with 37 consecutive wins, is five wins away from Ada’s record 42 wins.

Tahlequah went two rounds deep in the 5A playoffs last year.

Haskell, Warner, Gore and Hulbert have new coaches: Haskell got Rusty Harris from Haskell. Hulbert go Haskell assistant Joe Brown. Warner elevated assistant coach John Hart and Gore welcomes alumni and former Vian coach Brandon Tyler.
