The Natchitoches Parish Library’s (NPL) summer reading program begins its second and final month, and once again has a full week of activities and performances planned for children, teens, and adults! Registration continues for the reading portion of the program at either branch location, or you may visit natlib.org and register online. Participants will then receive a reading log or have access to an online version to complete for the reading for rewards portion of the program which concludes July 31. The NPL will host storyteller Sherry Broussard, Wednesday, July 5, at 10am and 2pm at the Main Branch and again Thursday at 10am, with a fourth performance for the Northeast Branch at 2pm. The oral stories will be interactive for all the children in attendance, however seating is limited in the Children’s Performance Area, so it is recommended to arrive early to find a seat before the show begins. The Teen summer reading program participants will be building their own marble run from engineering mystery bags on Thursday, July 6, at 3pm. Space and materials are limited for Teen Summer Reading activities. Parents are asked to contact Michelle Pichon, Teen Programmer, at 318-238-9240 to register their teens to participate. The program is open to ages 11-17. Adult programming also continues at the NPL, Monday, July 3, at 6pm with “Jewelry Making with Alecia”, where patrons will be making their own bracelets and necklaces. Weekly “Book & Movie Talk” continues Wednesdays at 4pm in the third-floor magazine section. Here, patrons can discuss recent reads or favorite films with their peers and pick up some of the recommendations from the library’s materials. Adults can also get a relaxing break in their morning with Coffee and Coloring from 10-11:30am Thursday in the third-floor meeting room. Each week, specialty coffees and teas accompany calming music and friendly conversation while patrons take part in the adult coloring craze. Opportunities for exercising the body as well as the mind will continue with the NPL’s free fitness program “Cardio and Circuit Training with Nikki” Thursdays at 6pm. The library also has prize drawings for adult readers who submit book or movie reviews. Each review submitted is an entry to win one of the many prizes donated by area businesses.
