Northern York scores late to outlast Ephrata

As the old adage goes, “timing is everything.”

Northern York didn’t score until the fifth inning of Monday’s District 3 Class 5A tournament opener against Ephrata, but that didn’t stop the Polar Bears from pulling out a 4-1 victory.

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, Curtis Robison delivered a two-run double to push Northern ahead 2-1.

Jared Holford drove in Jake Sacoman with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. An Ephrata error allowed Cole Shumaker to score later in the frame as Northern increased its lead.

Robison, Holford, Sacoman and Owen McKeever each finished with two hits at the plate. Northern starter Trent Culver picked up the win after allowing one run (unearned) on four hits while issuing two walks and striking out six across six innings of work.
